The former Liverpool stalwart was not the only member of the football family left both enraged and bewildered by the re-emergence of a controversial concept that just refuses to go away.

“I’ve been hearing about a Super League since I first started in football 10 years ago,” Udinese‘s Magda Pozzo tells Goal, “and nothing has ever materialised.

“Every domestic league has its own history, tradition and its importance that makes it unique, so, I think a Super League would be very difficult to create.”

Difficult, but not impossible, though. If history has taught us anything, it is that money is a powerful agent of change. Remember, the Champions League and Premier League have two things in common: both were born in 1992 and both were conceived by avaricious club owners.
